Damn... Maybe a call/letter to VIA is due tomorrow. Back when i was having problems, I assumed it was my own stupidity that wouldn't allow it to work properly, but it seems many other seemingly bright people are also failing. I think tomorrow while at work it will be "to the bat phone".

LOL, it's the same with just about any tech place. We'll see, thanx for the wish of luck.

I tried messing around with it a little more, but didn't have the time or patience to mess with it anymore.

I went ahead and got an audigy. I haven't installed it yet becuase I've been traveling and just got back yesterday. Going on another trip tomorrow, so probably won't see how it sounds 'till after Christmas.

Best of luck talking to Via. Maybe if they're able to do something ... I'll owe you a drink!

Did you check the viaarena forums? There are a couple of people who claim that they were able to get it working.

    Yay! I figured it out!

As in the instructions, 5.1 Surround must be selected in the control panel. In Volume Controls, Enabled Smart5.1 for the Front Speaker.

Now the magical part... for the rear speaker, enabled Magic5.1. Set Rear Volume to max and Front Volume to middle to get them about even.

(For those of you inexperienced with the Volume Control, Advanced Controls must be checked and Rear Speaker must be checked under Propertires.)

    Update to my post.

After Enabling Magic5.1 in the rear, all the speakers would pop and crackle a bit. Disabled Magic5.1 and left Smart5.1 on. Now that it was only playing through the front, I knew I would have to find a PCI sound card. For added fun, the speakers randomly swap! Turn on the computer and it randomly swaps between front or back speakers. Have to reset it to get it to move back to the front.

Now I need a case and a SoundBlaster... won't fit under the seat with that card sticking out.
