Does anyone know the protocol for the V1 remote display? I'd like to do something similar.

Thanks Mr. Trollbait, you astound me with your expert knowledge on such advanced features as Search. Perhaps you could enlighten us all and point to a thread that documents the remote unit protocol? All I have ever seen around here is the wire breakdown and some not-so-practical ideas about sticking IR detectors on the faceplate.

What is really needed is the baudrate and Huffman patterns for the display so that it can be wired to a 9-pin DIN and plugged into anything from a serial port to a USB adapter. Maybe I'll sit down with it this weekend and try to figure it out.

But in general, you are right, I will sell BC245XLT on ebay (same place, I bough it from) and concentrate on laser jammer.

Back to V1. I have V1 main unit mounted right under the rear view mirror. I have hard wired it to and put wire into the A pilar. and I put the concealed display under my tach in instrument cluster. Still I want to route information from the concialed display to my computer. I know some companies inquire this info directly from Vallentine1.com I should write a letter. But of cause I will search forums first.

    Cheers

Look i dont care if you listen to police, fire,cb etc.

Basicly you need a new scanner to listen to New York etc. Uniden just released the BC296 digital scanner Hand held! I just pick one up.

If you want that highway alert feature check out the uniden BCT-8. The bct-8 is the bct-12 and bct-7 combined neat radio.

Honestly, if you're doing a buck twenty down the highway, you should get everything coming to you. If you do get caught with a system like that, the cop who pulls you over will probably just arrest you on the spot for reckless driving. Sure it's legal to have the devices, but its Flagrant disregard for the law. Thereís NO way you could ever say that you weren't trying to avoid speeding tickets.

People driving way over (or under) the speed limit are hazards. I cannot count the number of times I've seen someone going over 100 start weaving through traffic and nearly hit someone or cause an accident.

Now, If you act like a dumbass when there's no traffic around, you only stand to kill yourself. I don't have a problem with that, it's your life, not mine. Iíll admit to trying to find out if the highest number on my speedometer is there for show or not, but only on an empty section of straight road.

I do hope youíre able to get this setup working though, it sounds like it would be quite cool. Iím just throwing in my 2 cents.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I agree gps/radar program would be neat. But its kinda pointless looking at a screen. More an likely it will cost you a ticket if your not paying attention to the road.

I'll admit it, I like to speed, I've pondered the same Idea like this, but frankly I don't think I want to attempt it basically for the same reason that gunmaster stated... why do you want to look at a screen? I mean if you are really doing like a buck twenty or so and all of a sudden you hear a beep and your screen flashes red or something and you look down, next thing you know you look up and WHAM!!! You hit something, wreck something or what not.

Now the idea that I want to do is to just integrate my radar/lasar detector into the dash of my car... basically mount the radar detector up by my rear view mirror in a piece of molding that may make it look natural... then run a couple of wires for power and rerun my LED's to my dashboard, and a power switch. That way if I do get hit I'll see the LED's light up right at eyes sight... now that I think about it I could make a HUD too... HMMMM

Anyways if you get it working I'd like to know how you do it....
New CarPC on the way again I think. I miss my old one!!!

I cant find the site but someone with a v1 mounted there v1 inside there review mirror pretty sweet. Some makes a kit I will try and find the site.
Someone else mounted in there brake light. Also a neat idea.

I have my passport 8500 and V1 right above my review mirror! nice spot!

also if you looking for a nice low profile radar detector check out the Escort SR7. http://www.escortstore.com/sr7.htm

I still dont like the screen idea really. Its like a having a women telling you "the faster you drive the more you can touch me.
