People driving way over (or under) the speed limit are hazards. I cannot count the number of times I've seen someone going over 100 start weaving through traffic and nearly hit someone or cause an accident.

I’ll admit to trying to find out if the highest number on my speedometer is there for show or not, but only on an empty section of straight road.

I do hope you’re able to get this setup working though, it sounds like it would be quite cool. I’m just throwing in my 2 cents.

oh, please, I drive 85-90mph all the time. I drive every day. I drive nice, well maintained Audi with nice tires, upgraded brakes and I took Audi performance driving school. don't tell me, I am a hazard. Note, I do not speed on local streets, I do not watch DVD, eat or any other not related activities while driving. Also note, that in Europe, I drove tiny VW Viento 95mph and I was slowest on the road. And guess what, Germany has better safery rate, than US. It because in Europe you have to earn right to drive car on public road and rules made for people, who knows how to drive and respect others. In US laws made so any bozo can take his "ride" for a spin.

Basicly you need a new scanner to listen to New York etc. Uniden just released the BC296 digital scanner Hand held! I just pick one up.

If you want that highway alert feature check out the uniden BCT-8. The bct-8 is the bct-12 and bct-7 combined neat radio.

As I've been reading through this thought I'd throw my .02 in..

I've thought about doing something like this but on a smaller budget as I can't afford the V1 or SR7 just yet.. Who knows maybe a graduation present to myslef next year before I go into the real world.

Anyways this is what I was thinking, and maybe you can apply it.. I'm considering using a normal radar detector and mounting it up in my front grill/bimpuer area. Then taking the LED leads taht are part of the detector/display and running them back to my PC. This is where it gets beyond my knowledge a little.. I'm thikning if I take the leads and go into an RS-232 port, with a simple program to monitor voltages and a small VB/flash front end it could work.
So as the radar's LED would go off it signals the RS232 as a high voltage then telling the front end to change a green circle display ro a red circle display (and maybe play a sound just so I dont have to always monitor the computer display)

Does anybody know if that would work, or if I'm dreaming too big on that concept
