USB gps mouse , max lenght cable

Hello,

is there anyone who knows how waht the max length of cable is for USB 1.1

because i bought a gps usb mouse , installed it with 5 meter usb cable in my car, installation wend fine.no probs

but alturion cant find any GPS mouse.

According to the USB spec, 5M is the maximum cable length. This is due to timing issues (the signal must be able to travel the length of the cable in less than 30ns, and cable typically has a propogation delay of 3 - 6 ns/M). The only way to know for sure if your cable is bad is to try a different one.

Sigma is right. USB won't work over 5 meters. I'd try using a shorter cable. There are also some signal boosting cables out there that are supposed to help break the 5 meter limitation. I've never used one so I don't know if they work. (I don't think they do.)

Just a suggestion, but does alturion find the GPS without the extension. I’m not familiar with alturion but all you may need to do is point alturion to the correct COM port. Windows can/will assign it to a specific COM port. You can go to the Device Manager and see which COM port was assigned to the GPS.
