I wouldn't recommend using a laptop to get the power. They aren't meant to provide that much power. You can buy a regulated 12v dc adapter from Radio Shack and that would do the job. It's tough to find a good 12v source on a laptop because the components usually use 5v. A serial port can provide 12v but it won't be enough to power an lcd screen.

is like add on kit but the guy the sold me the kit did not specify the it need it more than just connecting to the serial port ... i didn't use the usb option because i only have 2 and i need then both so is was eather getting a usb hub or get the a serial touch kit... so i wnt with the serial... so i'm just better of getting the adapter from radioshack... this is the kit the 13.3 kitfrom http://www.touchwindow.com/miva/merc...egory_Code=OEM or retuning the produck and getting a universal kit... but the universal comes standar for 12.1 to 14 screens and i don't want it to look dump...

Wait, are you talking about powering it or just connecting it to the computer?

Oh, so you're just trying to power the touchscreen and not the monitor. Sorry, I misunderstood you earlier. Most touchscreen interaces are powered by the serial or usb port automatically. If that doesn't work then you can just wire it directly to the car battery. 8-15 volts is a wide range so you should be fine. Just make sure that you have a fuse on there.

Don't forget to fuse that thing if you wire it directly to the battery
