    Mat****a DVD ROM SR 8186-B

I am planning on buying this slim slot DVD. It was taken from an Apple cube and has a 40pin connector (see picture attachment). The lable on the drive reads: "Apple SlotDVDROM SR 8186-B" "Matsu****a DVD ROM SR 8186-B version F113". Does anyone know if you can simply hook this up to normal PC IDE? If I can't use that adapter I still have a slim to normal IDE adapter here (would that work?).

yes it will work with a standard 40 pin ide, this is the perfect solution using this drive nice find, once you get this drive can you post the part number of the adaptor. Some people here have been buying an apple ide 50 adaptor and moding it(cutting and soldering) just to change it to a 40ide PTcruiser this is a in my opinion a better solution no moding reqed, I have the same drive and need this adaptor, other slim dvd drive adaptors don't work for some reason pan made these drives with the JAE50 plug rotated 180deg all there other dvd cdrw slim slot laod drives have the plug in the standard direction, I think it's an apple conspiracy enough ranting
please post this adaptor pt #

apple's extra pins in any of their peripherals has an extra/added options that is none existent on the pc, hence those off-the-shelves (e.g.) slimline dvd drives you'll find with the "standard" pin are designed definitely for pc only.

    Unhappy

I decided not to buy it anyway... got too high in price (I had a 8x slim DVD/CDRW combo for the same price, however it got fried in a short circuit). You could email the seller (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=2774697825) and ask him for the part number.
