CarPC and HD, How close can it be to my 12" Subwoofer?

My CarPC box and harddrive are right next to my Subwoofer box. Is this bad?
Yes, the magnet is huge and magnets are not good for pcs, but I'm sure there is a tolerable level of magnetic interference.

This may sound pretty absurd, but you probably won't have any problem at all. I argued this point with a friend who is a professional TV and VCR repair man, and he assured me that magnets aren't as bad for PC's as we have all been taught. So I told him to put his money where his mouth is. He left a bulk tape eraser (very powerful electromagnet) lying on top of a Western Digital hard drive in the case of his PC for a week with it running. He used the PC every day, and, amazingly enough, never had one bit of problem from the system. I've been working on computers for years (I've built almost 2100 and repaired thousands more), and I've always been taught that magnets were a no-no around PC's, but now I'm beginning to doubt. Of course, YMMV.

I think it has to be pretty strong and direct to erase the HD's.

So if the FBI come's breaking into my house, all those large magnets I saved up won't help erase my HD's? lol j/k

    Your Mileage May Vary.

(your experience may be different, what worked for others might not work for you, take it with a grain of salt, lots of different factors give lots of different results, always wear clean underwear in case you're in an accident....oops, got carried away)

OK, well it booted Linux up just now, so I guess it's werking. The linux was a install from my Dell Laptop and not even the carpc, but it recognized new hardware and got rid of some hardware and booted right into Redhat desktop.

    Linux rocks.

The IDE goes up to my Glovebox.

I took it out of my old car and put it in this one. I hope to get a DVD-ROM/CD-RW slim style and stick it in the glovebox. I have a Pioneer slot load biggie desktop one now. I havent tested the DVD ROM cable in this car yet, that's tomrorow. I just tested the hardware and stuff tonihgt, All looks smooth. Very happy.
