If I didn't already have two antennas that work great I'd totally buy that. It would go right along with my 8foot omni cellular antenna

    Sway,

As a general rule of thumb, for every 3db of antenna gain improvement, you will double your effective range. So if you go from a 9dbi gain antenna to a 12dbi gain antenna, you will effectively double your range. However, there are other factors that come into play, so the 3db improvement is not always toatlly accurate.

Would any one be willing to get one of these and ship it to me obviously I would pay all costs

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3065692644

I'm in the UK and they have stopped shipping these kits to the uk because of damage from domestic mail services.

The price is $46 and I can only find them for $170 elsewhere. Any help much appreciated

Don't forget. WiFi is a two way communication.

If you power up your attenna or get a better antenna, yes you will have better reception and transmission.

But, the Access Point to which you are connecting to must also be able to transmit the signal back. Yes it helps to have a better gain, but improving both sources helps.

    Leslie,

You are absolutely correct. If you could improve the system gain of both ends of the link, the 3db rule would apply to BOTH ends. That's how some people are getting MILES of range using high gain antennas at both ends.

I don't thing the people I'm borrowing internet access from would appreciate my request that they upgrade their antenna so that I may get a better signal. I think I'll stick to upgrading the antenna on my end.

Jackso...you know, it's amazing how many people you can "borrow" internet access from. I've experimented a lot latey. It's pretty easy with WinXP Zero Config utility.

The only thing that really annoys me with XP is it's refusal to want to let your browse the network neighborhood. It's very happy letting you view "computers near you" but you have to jump through too many hoops to view the entire network. Not to me malicious or anything really, but you never know when your "internet provider" will have a great copy of the Paris Hilton video shared for you to perouse.

Are you guys driving around with pringles cans pointing at peoples houses?
    lol
Do you really got to check your email that bad?

I wardrove by accident. My real use of WiFi 802.11b was to transfer files like mp3's to my car before I leave my garage. Now I use 802.11g and that works slightly better.

While you guys are at it...
Get a USB Bluetooth antenna and drive around and BlueJack people's phones with funny messages. Or better yet, BlueJack some Acura's like the new TL with Bluetooth.
