I'm in the UK and they have stopped shipping these kits to the uk because of damage from domestic mail services.

The price is $46 and I can only find them for $170 elsewhere. Any help much appreciated
i'd check out www.cantenna.com first. And no, it isn't just a relabled pringles can. The pringles cans sucked anyway. I'd actually highly reccomend this antenna vs. others i have used. cheap to boot

The real issue is that it was rumored that a local company here in town (Port Huron, Michigan) was going to offer wireless internet access via 802.11b for a fee. This would have been great. On this rumor, I built the computer with web cams, and installed chat clients etc. anticipating the release. They have since backed out. So, I am left to "borrow" internet when I want to use such things. I've yet to find any "internet providers" near the river/lake which is my relaxation place and subsiquently the place where I use the computer most. Bigger antenna = Longer range. Maybe the Casino across the river in Sarnia Ontario Canada has WiFi?

remember it's a directional antenna so you've got to aim it at the source. I've only used it when I've already have a faint signal with my omni. What I've found is that it roughly quadruples the signal strength of what i was getting off of the omni. example: in freeport, maine I found a hotel with wireless access. when I parked in the mcdonalds up the street (about 1000 ft away) the omni was dropping in and out- almost no signal. I hooked up the cantenna and got 70% signal strength. quite impressive if you ask me.

big walls and such will always severely hurt your signal strength. for this reason I haven't had much luck testing it in an urban environment.

i got the one that robiepw suggested, and its friggin awesome.

also, it's a lot smaller than the pictures make it out to be. I thought it might have been a CB radio antenna that was modified, but this thing is like 7 inches tall
