    Post "Press F1 to resume"........argh!

OK, for some reason lately upon bootup I'm getting the "Press F1 to resume" right before she jumps into Windows98. I've checked all my BIOS options and don't see anything about pausing for errors or anything that would cause this. The motherboard is an IBM, but I forget the exact model. Any help appreciated.

Check the motherboard battery is ok, cause if it goes flat, the motherboard forgets everything, and the "f1 to continue msg. comes up"

Occasionally though, i used to get the f1 msg. come up in my car for no reason (saying the date and time have been lost), so i carried a full keyboard in the boot in case this happend. I pressed f1 to continue, then run a batch file to set the date and time. This didn`t happen very often, however.

Hey, Mike. Yeah, I have a keyboard and hit te F1, too. Not a big deal but I got used to the seamless bootup before this starting happening. There's gotta be a reason for it. The battery should still be good and the settings seem to be holding so I really don't think it's that but I'll pop a new battery in there anyhow. The cold may be somehow killing the battery a bit. Cheers.

I had the same problem, during the summer though. The bios would also reenable the onboard sound and create all kinds of headaches.

    Hi Tony S,
I agree that it could be the CMOS battery. I had to replace it once, and it cleared the problem right up.
By the way, where in the Garden State do you live? I'm in Old Bridge, Central Jersey.

Hey Mike. Old Bridge, eh? Cool. I'm in the Woodbridge area. Funny thing is that all the BIOS settings stay so I was guessing it couldn't be the battery. I've gotta get around to replacing the battery anyway. I should know better, actually, that the cold definitely does put a hurtin' on batteries. I'll give it a shot.
