Glove box mounted laptop DVD-ROM using 15 foot IDE cable pics.

Here is my slim line DVD-ROM mounted in the glovebox.

I got the adapter from www.big008.com and the laptop DVD-ROM from my Dell laptop.

It's connected to a 80 wire 15 foot IDE that goes to the trunk.

    Here are some pics:

I think he means he got the adaptor from big008, not the cable!

Did you make that cable yourself or did you buy it from someone?

In Jan 2002, I got the cable made for me from a job supplier we go to. I paid 16 buks.

You can get a 80 wire 15 foot or more or less from www.stonewallcable.com . I think they charge like 25 buks for it.

I know alot of people in the past have thought about long IDE's and people say they don't work. Well here is my 2nd car and 2nd proof it works. I have been using long IDE for 2 years now.

I just ordered a 10 foot cable from Stonewall. It cost $21.00 plus $0.05 per inch, for a total $27.00, and then it was $9.03 for thier cheapest shipping. So $36.03 all said and done.

    Not too bad...

Better off this way than a firewire or USB 2.0 converter blah blah blah.

I can boot from the DVD and install windows. Thats why I like...

It's also better than $20 for IDC crimper, $2 for 40 pin IDC connectors, and $50 for a spool of 80 conductor ribbon cable.

I thought about going that route and selling the cables here to make up the difference, but I'm lazy!

Yes, someone was selling them here.

I sold a few a while back, but was disapointed to find out they were 40 wire and not 80. I had like 5 of them.

If anyone want's to know how nice the connector fits on back of the slimline look here at how it attached so nice. (I was like yea yea) :
