    Anything you would change?

Should I spend the extra $50.00 to get a retail box for the hard drive instead of the "bare drive"?

What are you doing for a power supply?
I wouldn't spend 50 bucks for packing materials... But then I don't plan on taking anything back...

no dvd player? if you decide to get a dvd player, get the Pioneer Slot Load one, its like $65-70 on mwave and since you are already spending $35 on a cd-rom, might as well spend a bit more and get dvd. Otherwise everything else looks fine. The floppy drive is up to you. If you are planning on networking this machine to another pc, i would say you dont need one. Or, if you have a CD-RW burner you can just burn something and rewrite over it (so you dont waste a cd over a small file).

I don't know about the power supply just yet, I was thinking about the DC-DC from keypower (I think that is the right name) or if anyone has any other suggestions. I would rather not go with an inverter.

I was actually going to get the Pioneer like you suggested, but then one of the pages said that you have to get a controller card to make it work properly. Do I need the controller card to play DVD's in stereo? In am not interested in surround. Also what about software for the DVD, do they come with it, or do I need ot buy it?

    Thanks guys

Jeff, was that you that was talking about a specific Celeron processor that drew considerably less current? I don't remember where that was. I think it was a 533 or a 566. If it was, could you give me the quick rundown of what that is all about, and is it compatible with the fv24?

    Cool

The Shuttle website lists all processors that are compatible with the motherboard. That would be the first place to check. I don't know the exact address, but you can find it if you search for "FV-24" on pricewatch.com.
Player: Pentium 166MMX, Amptron 598LMR MB w/onboard Sound, Video, LAN, 10.2 Gig Fujitsu Laptop HD, Arise 865 DC-DC Converter, Lexan Case, Custom Software w/Voice Interface, MS Access Based Playlists
Car: 1986 Mazda RX-7 Turbo (highly modded), 1978 RX-7 Beater (Dead, parting out), 2001 Honda Insight

It was the 533a or the 566. They were the first two processors in the Celeron series to run the new coppermine core which use .18 micron technology. As such, they should consume less power and run cooler. The 533a's are kinda hard to get ahold of, but you should be able to get ahold of some 566's rather inexpensively

On the hard drive issue, they are under manufacturer warranty for 3 years regardless, so the box version isn't worth the extra. If it dies, all you have to do is run their diagnostic software on it, get the problem code, and then call in and get an RMA number and they'll swap you a new one.

I can vouch for the Pioneer slot-load DVD drive. I have had one since they first came out and have been very pleased with it.

    Cool, thanks.

Ok, I found a 533a but it is $100.00. http://store.yahoo.com/acmicro/cpc-050.html Is it worth the extra money for this processor?
They also have celerons as slow as 400mhz
for $23.00, will the slower processors consume less power also? if so I would like to save the $75.00

The only reason it is so expensive is because they are great for overclocking. I would just find a cheaper faster proc. Something like the 766 you had in your cart before. Definitely don't go slower. You then lose the benefit of the .18 micron technology and also have slower processing speeds.
