Thread: you guys run your carputer with the engine off?

    Arrow you guys run your carputer with the engine off?

    anyone do it?
    i ocassionally am sitting in my car waiting for something or just lounging and want the radio on
    i dont know how long the battery would last with the carputer on

    and now that i think about it, if i had a head unit in there and just wanted to use that i couldnt cause once the ignition is turned on the computer starts up

    I do it all the time.. I think my car's main battery is 50-60A, and my "backup" battery in the trunk is 110A.. :-) I can leave it on for MANY hours, and i never really managed to drain my battery to the point where the car won't start.. I think my inverter cuts power at around 11.6V..

    Well.. I run a wire (positive) from my main battery to my trunk.. Then it goes into a diode (to prevent the main battery from using backup when starting), and onto the positive pole on my backup battery.. Grounding is done in the car's chassis... Then i just run my inverter off this battery (with some relay's (for powering up) )..

    Hope this cleared it out..

    can you please tell me more about your relay's for powering up? do you shut down manually? (or go to standby?) which relay do you use?

    do you have a schema how your power-concept works? could you send me more information about that? sounds really good..

    Burnout basically built a battery style tank circuit. I'd bet his system won't reboot when crank. I do have 1 question though. What size diode did you use? The relay is probably just to turn on and off the inverter.

    The system still looks like hell, but i can take a picture if you guys wanna see it? My system does NOT reboot when cranking, so it's sweet.. The relay is for turning on inverter and for setting power to amp.. Amplifiers remote power is run from my serial port.. Since I'm still stuck with an inverter (looking for a good laptop-adapter in norway), I use hibernate.. Boots to usable state in around 20 seconds including post..

    I use that morex psu 55W, with an M-10000.. the board takes in regulated 12V, so all i need to do is regulate that..
