    1 second boot up

An interesting article in this morning local paper, a company has produced a 1 second boot up PC. I think it had hardware assisted bootup and I will try and find the article and post the details.

It may be a long way off yet, but at least wre heading in the right direction.

How can that possibly be news......linux booting in 10 secs ? doesn't take that much effort. Windows is listed as needing full Windows load time (how do you define that :-)

EFI!!! That is how it will be done probably!! I know that a few of the big dogs in computers are already implementing this in some of there CE devices. EFI should shave a few seconds off of the boot time easily!!!

Hmm have you actually managed to get linux booting in less than 10 seconds? I've tried and IDE detection takes 3-4 seconds alone... You have to majorly hack the initscripts as well...

Well, I'm sorry for posting that load of crp. The newspaper article mentioned 1 second boot up and Windows.... truth is, it's neither...
