I like 10s because they're a little more punchy and more defined. But 12's will give you that "car shaking rumble" that you're looking for. As for sony vs. rockford, I would go rockford, but that's just me
well, im designing a complete trunk setup and was wondering what was best - 2 10s or 2 12s or one of each? i dunno. I like rock - and like it to thud, but sometimes ill play some rap or techno, and want that car shaking rumble. Whats the best way to go? Also Rockford Fosgate or Sony? what are the best brands and what kind of amps am i looking at?
thanks, and sorry for being so broad.

Check it out?!
Depending upon how much money you want to spend, you can get some pretty different sounding speakers. I heard an 8" JL audio speaker that played lower then my two 12" infinity perfect speakers. The 12" version was awesome, I couldint imagine how 2 or 4 would sound (I will probably put 2 or 4 in the dash of my truck, still working out issues with cubic ft, etc..).
I have heard that http://www.thezeb.com/ is a great place to shop for car audio, a large selection, inexpensive, and fast shipping.
If you want to listen to Rock mostly then 10s. You get that nice tight kick drum bass and you can still drop the bass too, but don't expect the really low lows.
I just got done with the stereo part of the carputer setup last week, a single solobaric kicker 10" (DVC, 4ohms bridged to 2ohms) sounds really really really good. Best I've heard! (out of single speaker setups) I used to have 2 12" JL Audio's, sounded great too, but not as punchy or clear as this. It's model number is the 2003 S10L7-4Originally Posted by Defiler
I got it at a buyitnow price of around 129$ on eBay, it was brand new and not b-stock. I have it crossed over at 100-105hz. I think the seller was BASSSALES.
The box is sealed, .77cubic feet (accounting for the sub), with 50% polyfill matting inside. If you push the cone in, it takes a while to go inwards, and takes about 30 seconds to get back to it's normal position, so it's basically air-tight.
Yes, it's a 10", but it has 20% more surface/cone area than a circular 10, so in theory, it gives you about the same sound and punch as a conventional 12". Also, it's awesome for movies!
The amp driving it, is a clarion APX500.1 (5 channel).

Image Dynamics make some great subs. I'm using a single 12" (IDQ12) with a cheap Kenwood 200W amp I've had for years. Even the 12's are very punchy, and this one sub is louder than my friends 2 x10" Infinity's and 2 x 10" JB loud / Clear. Efficient, and very musical but it can really hit the lows when you need it. I think my box is .75 including displacement.
I love eclipse so i would have to say a SW8102DVC. in a 2ft^3 ported box tuned to 16Hz it will have a good slope, -3db @30hz or a JL 10w6 with 1.94ft^3 tuned to 24, for -3db @23Hz then get a eclipse 34230 or JL 500/1
imo RF and Sony are crap. if some one gave me one i would sell it for one of the two i listed. as for kicker, they are not a bad sub but they are more for spl "loud" not sq "sound"
now working on my Dodge Dak
toshiba portege == done
audigy2 NX == done

pimp rating == 48%
as mentioned above: tens for punch, twelves for low bass. (generally) Sony for punch, Rockford for low bass. My pick would be Sony tens, you get tired of low bass pretty quick, my single ten made the hood rattle, but I only used it for a summer
Totally forgot about the single dvc eclipse 10" sub I made for my friend... that sounded a little better than my stuff come to think of itOriginally Posted by killerfishes
Don't know why I forgot about it.
Sony... eh.

I'd get a single JL 10W7 or 12W7 personally. Actually, I AM getting a 12W7. =P
