    Wake-On LAN connector

I have a three pin Wake-On LAN connector on my Epia motherboard;I know that it is for use with a network card but is there any way to use it to wake the pc up directly(sending 5v to a pin, grounding a pin, connection two of the pins?)I want to use my alarm remote control to start the pc(from hibernation or standby )?

    mst,
    sending 5v to a pin,grounding a pin,connection two of the pins
I believe it should be possible since this is what the NIC WOL interface does. I'm interested in this also. Let us know what you find. Google for WOL on the web. You should be able to find the details of the interface (ie +5v, gnd).

Are you sure just grounding the pins works? I would try it but can't afford to kill any hardware.

Yes this is exactly my problem,I have killed a laptop motherboard playing with it,"just" a few microscopic inductors burned, luckily a new board was not too expensive on ebay but I am afraid of my Via Epia.
I have been looking on this site:
    http://www.sweclockers.com/html/arti...mod.php?page=1
    (Yes,I know this is Swedish)
He is using the WOR and not WOL but it might work the same way.
I think that in WOL the net card will receive the "magic packet",the net card has current from the WOL connector (5v and ground),the motherboard is sleeping and cannot receive anything, then the net card received the packet and accepts it it sends a signal to the motherboard (either 5v or ground)to wake it up.
With WOR there are no "magic packet"just a ring signal.
Tell me if there is something that I have misunderstood or if somebody have tried to put ground th the WOL on the WOL connector

I have the WOL connecter somewhere around here and it has 3 wires you connect, so maybe ther eis a + / - and a data line??? Im pretty sure they wouldn't put the wire on there if they didn't need it. It is a cheapo Belkin card that was purchased from staples for $10

Guys, don't go jumping pins that way. I would use a 1k resistor for protection.

Well,if you notice we only talk, nobody has dear to make the connection yet,a 1k resistor would be enough to make sure that the funny smell of burned motherboard does not develops

do not put 5v on the conectors!!!

the 5v mentioned are from the phone to triger the relay!

the relay shorts the circuit and grounds the wor pin1
the second pin is already grounded.

( i hope this makes the mother board live a bit longer)
