    Laptop in car (no LCD)

I've been searching for about 2 hours on this site, looking for any information on people installing lappy's in cars. I have an older Dell 2500 inspiron (about 3 years old) and everything works. What i want to do is install the laptop some how where my passenger or myself can use it to play mp3's or dvds. I dont want to buy a LCD screen or spend a lot of money. But am willing to spend around $200+ on any hardware that is needed to do this. I was thinking of maybe something that the police use, but would want to be able to move it out of the way if needed. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be good. Also i would need to be able to remove the computer with ease. This might not be possible but a keyword for more searches would be nice or a name of some one that has already done something like this. Please help

To make it easily removable you want to see what the laptop can do in terms of docking stations. I think you are gonna have trouble with not buying a screen, since anywhere you would be able to see the laptop would have to be a semi-serious mount job.

the best direction i can think of to look for something that might help is http://www.data911.com/dnmdsdescription.htm . They do basically police grade stuff, they may have a mount like you want. Good luck.

If you are willing to spend around $200, get a docking station a buy a cheap LCD. that way the computer can remain out of the way and you can very easily run the various controls for it up front. It seems like having a huge laptop mount up front would be a pain. Also, I'm curious if you plan to tie it into the car's aduio system or not.

didn't those dell inspirons have TV out? i think they had the ATI Rage pro so its a possibility, you could always grab one of those low rez composite in LCD screens for dirt cheap and load up a front end like media engine temporarily, but I would go with the docking station and mount it under the seat (if you have room) or in the trunk mounted on the side
