Post Any benifits or drawbacks to more RAM?

Are there any benifits or drawback to haveing 256MB RAM as opposed to 128MB RAM. It would cost an extra $17. System is going to play MP3's and DVD.
    Thanks

ok, so for each additional 128MB it will use 5 more watts? What if you use two 128MB cards instead of one 256MB card, will this consume even more power?

    more ram draws more current.

RAM 10W/128MB +3.3V (from Teleks post)
so about 3a on your 3.3 line
If your planning on a full scale system - with lots of stuff drawing off the 3.3v line you might want to worry about the max 3.3v current of your PSU.

I suppose as long as none of your software requires more why bother..?

Steve: Why the heavy ram requirements? My mp3car runs beautifully on a p-133 with 16mb of ram, running my own customized VB control app, with winamp providing sound, and boots in 43 seconds. What are you doing, playing quake in the car? It always puzzles me why the mp3car guys tend to drift toward 2 extremes: the low-end guys who make it happen on a p-120 or p-100 with 16m ram, and then the power users who run p3-800+'s with large amounts of ram. The key to getting your system to work is to optimize the OS, by removing any unneccesary software from the drive, using a very lightweight OS, disabling the startup shell and making your mp3car program the default shell, etc.
