Have you tried using another power plug, if one is available from the power supply? If so, I would start looking at the drive's power receptacle as a potential problem child.
Okay, here's my setup.
EPIA M-1000
WD 60GB HD 3.5"
Pioneer slot-loading 6x DVD
Destinator GPS mouse
Xenarc 7" touchscreen
250 watt PSU from a micro-ATX case
400 watt inverter.
From time to time (not always) I would have winamp5 on a song and it would freeze, the HD had stopped spinning. I had to wiggle the Power Plug on the HD and it'll start spinning again and continue the music. What would be the cause of it? At first I though it's because the power cord is not long enough, so I extend it to the HD.
BTW, the motherboard, PSU, and HD are all in my little RAV4 Glovebox compartment.
