    Hi,

I have a cassette tape deck and a 6 disk's cd changer. Both are originals and come with my GM Vectra.
The code for my deck is DF742.

    In the manual is writed:
    c01 EXT SDA (I2C)
    c02 EXT SCL (I2C)
    c03 Telephone Audio Input
    c04 EXT MRQ (I2C)
    c05 E&C BUS
    c06 N.C.
    c07 TEL GND
    c08 Signal GND
    c09 CD Audio In L
    c10 CD Audio In R

Is there any way to plug my mp3player here?

One way is to plug my mp3player Audio L & R instead of the cd player Audio L & R, but I think I'll have to let the cd changer playing and I don't want to do this.

    Thanks for any help,

    Diego Soares

I just read your post while searching for info on the PIE adapters. I'm looking into using one.

it requires a cd changer to be installed
Actually, the installation instructions for the adapter say that if you have a CD changer it has to be disconnected . In fact the PIE adapter emulates the changer so you cannot use the changer.

    See http://www.pie.net/gm9_aux_inst.htm
    also http://www.pie.net/aux_appl_gm.htm#chevrolet
    and http://www.pie.net/sec12sb1m.htm

What you do need is a head unit with changer controls, which according to the above pages, the 2001 Silverado does have. I have a 2001 Suburban and I assume the CD/Radio is the same.

I found the AAI-GM9 adaptor after getting a 99 silverado for Christmas. It is a great little adaptor. After hooking it up I now have no need to ground by box and have zero noise (engine whine or invertre hum). I paid around $50 for it and had a thread in Jan about it. Search for AAI-GM9. Insatll pics are at www.thethorns.net/install.html . You do have to have a working AUX attached for it to work. I have a cassette in the stereo and a Aux CD. I boot up the computer and when I get the display on I push the CD button on the stereo and then have to switch the Aux selector switch connected to the adaptor. You can have the factory Aux plus 2 others. I have an 1/8 in cable handy incase I want to hook up a protable MP3 player/Ipaq/etc... Let me know if you want to know the sites I found that sells it.

Heres where I ended up getting mine. They were a little slow getting it out (it was around the holidays) but for $50.32 and 4 bucks for shipping I was happy when other sites had it for $75. Main thing is tha you have a working AUX unit, you can't use it if you just have the AUX plug on the back of the stereo. I have to have a CD in the player for it to work. In the documentation it also tells you how to set up the switch with a 12V input that auto switches it to one of AUX but I didn't do it that way.

If you need an aux unit, then what is the point of this device? All you have to do is rewire the L/R audio wires (from the aux unit) to a pair of RCA plugs.

    From www.theodysseyproject.net/audio.html
Now all you need to do is cut three wires on the remote add-on cable; 4, 5, and 6.

    1. Battery Out - Orange
    2. E & C Data - Darker Green
    3. Ground Out - Black
    4. Audio Com In - Light Brown
    5. Left In - Orange w/ black stripe
    6. Right In - Lighter Green
    7. Voice + in - Bare w/ clear tubing
    8. Dimming Out - Gray
    9. R14 Out - Blue

You can find these three wires in the middle of the remote add-on cable. DO NOT CUT ANY OF THE OTHER WIRES. The other wires send power to the add-on and pass data back and forth between the head unit and add-on. Assuming you do not wish to use the tape player just solder on some RCA females. Do not forget to leave a tape in the tape player.

You really don't need it but all I had to do to have 2 aux inputs plus the factory CD player is plug in a couple plugs. To have the same thing the other way would have involved about half the cost of the device in RCA plugs/a good switch/time to cut, solder, tape the connections and then there would be no built in noise filter?? I guess I just thought it was worth it for my build.
If I ever sell the truck removal will be a piece of cake I guess it all depends on what your time is worth.

    cutting the aux input wires

Thanks for the code guys it is correct. I was able to splice right in.

However, there is a problem with this method.......

The AUX input only works if the CD unit has a cd in it. I tried putting in a blank CD and it wont work. So what I have is the XM radio and the Cd playing simultaneously.

In other words the aux input button only works when the cd is playing, is there a work around this?

    Thanks Guys.

has anyone had the same problem?

PdAuX3W aux input adapter for GM trucks

The PdAuX3W auxiliary adapter allows you to interface GPS, ipod, XM Sat etc. to Chevy and GMC trucks. It does not require any prewiring and allows you to keep the factory remote tape/CD and CD changer connected.
