Routers are generally way more expensive than access points (unless there is a sale or rebates) but that would have to bee some hefty rebates because usually they sell for 150+

Sounds like a cool idea. I like the functionality aswell. I will ook into it some more when i get board with my system and decide to add more features

ummm... $150 for a router? More like $50-60 for most consumer level ones. But there hasn't been a week where at least one store was having a sale so you can usually get them for around $30-50. Access points usually run $60 and up. For example, Best Buy has a D-Link wireless router for $49 right now. Compare that to a D-Link AP that they have for $79, $30 difference (and that's not even the cheapest deal right now, Staples $10AR Netgear is the cheapest currently). As long as you don't need the repeater or bridging functions that most APs have it makes more sense to buy a router rather than a AP.

Here's my big all consuming question.

How the hell are you surfing and driving at the same time? or should I stay out of the cities you guys live in?

    Two answer both previous questions:
    1) Staples on it presidents day sale has a netgear wouter (Netgear MR814NA Cable/DSL Wireless Router w/4-Port Switch 802.11b) for Reg. $69.98 - $20 Price Break - $30 Mail-in Rebate -$10/40 Coupon = $9.94.

    2) I am not not driving and coding/surfing, my wife drives and I enjoy the net.

Fortunately my connection is pretty fast compared to the current avaliable cellular providers. Until cellular providers speed up the connection speed we should take it and be happy.

What cell service do you have? I live in SoCal, San Diego area. I use Verizon. When I go to the desertaround here, the only signal that I can barely pick up is analog. Do you actually get 9.6Kbps?

    Thanks,

Here maybe you guys should check out this, for those that wanted to turn the carpc into some sort of server.

    http://www.viewsonic.com/products/smartdisplays.htm

Edit, dont forget that if you do deploy the server an M10000 wont cut it.

I wanna see your wireless bill after all this mobile surfing... that combined with the extreme lack of speed would make it not worthwhile in my opinion.
