Wireless Router in car - Has any done it?

I was thinking, Trying to surf or email on a 7" screen is crazy. Like send a email on a palm. So has anyone taken a wireless router (most run at 12V) attached it to your carPC and run the power from the pc to the router. Than connected a internet phone (t-mobel, attws, verizon, ect...) for internet access. With your laptop you can now surf using your wireless connection. Or two people could surf, if you had two laptops. Good for long distance travels. You will need to configure your carpc to be a router.

Or you can connect the laptop directly to the phone....

I had thought about that, but the router method, would allow the carpc to get traffic/weather information and inform the driver. ie Your map software knows where you are (GPS) and where your going (route). If you have a soruce (web-site) where you can get live traffic information, you can write a program which will inform you if you are driving right into a traffic jam.

Are you talking about using a router to output a signal? Or are you talking about using an 802.11x card to connect to existing wireless networks? I have a wireless card in my car and I connect to misc. networks in my town, I use a program called Netstumbler to locate and plot them. So that has been done?? I think your description is a little vague.... could you be a little more specific?

But, couldn't you either connect with the carPC or the laptop to the phone and have either act as a router?

If there is a costless way to get realtime weather and traffic, its worthed.

Sorry about the description. here is a idea is that the carpc would have the connection to the internet via a cellphone. the 10baset ethernet connection would connect the carpc with the wireless router. The laptop would only have a 802.11x pc card. The carpc needs to be configured to act as a router between the router ands the cellphone.

The advantages of this are:
- Multiple laptops can be used at one.
- The carpc could have connection to retreive information
- he laptop doesn't have a dangling phone attached to it.

Mmendis, the PC can be configured to act as a router without the need of an external wireless router.

Almost a Ghost: well, I would want traffic jams report on my GPS map, not within the radio - there is too many information in too short time to be able to process it all when they say it ever 9 minutes on the radio, so I need a map to plan an alternate route when there is a monster jam.

getting realtime info should be great then. ;)
