While possible, I think you will find the signal gets stupid going beyond a single split. Our store sells a simple VGA splitter that will get you two monitors from one plug. I suggest getting a dual head vid card, then splitting one of the heads. I think you will find a better cost/quality ratio that way.

Usually the onboard VGA won't work in tandem with any expansion cards. You can split once from the onboard video, but it will be very slow, and not worth the effort. You are better off using a separate card if you intend to do anything with video.

If you're willing to pay the price, look at the Matrox Parhelia line. They make a 3-head video card.

If you're really into having the 3 monitor's displaying the same thing, you can buy a signal multiplexer. Last time I saw one was a couple years ago and they're about $1000.

It would be much cheaper to go the dual-out video card and split one signal. Many GeForce cards have two outs - one analog and one digital, or both digital. You can get a PCI version of it if you're using an EPIA motherboard and only spend about $200.

You could get two PCI video Cards and just mirror the output on all three.
