ok peeps, I have a CDX-M700 sony head unit, its about 3 years old, and i'm hoping to use this as my amp / radio for my carputer, on the back it has 3 sets of phono sockets, on them they say front out, rear out and sub out/aux in ..
As i'm not using these and just powering the speakers from the inbuilt amp, am i right in thinking the aux in and be used by just taking a cable from my pc's line out to this ? If this is the case how would i select this from the unit, does it just auto add a extra bit to the source button ?

I have a sony HU too, and it only shows available sources when you push the source button. So if there is nothing connected to the AUX it wont show up as an avilable option. After you connect it, it should show up fine. Just like if you take your CD out, and try to choose the CD as the source, its not there.
kewl, that was just the answer i was looking for :-) just waiting on a screen now.. I've already re-skined mediacar 'brushmetal' not to include the vol / radio and included a apps button in readyness.. so far i have

2 x 2m USB extention cable (making 1x4m) this will be used to get usb into the front of the car, this will then be connected to a 4 port USB2.0 hub.. from here I'm hoping to plug in the touchscreen with a short usb cable i have, also a keyboard / mouse if needed.. but the main reason is I can stick in my portable harddrive in for transfering files to the boot.
Was also thinking about getting a webcam to use as a rear camera, or even as my son is only 4 months old, to position it so I can see his face when i'm driving as his car seat has to point to the rear. ? I've already ordered a TV aerial.. just trying to decide which is the best usb tc card to get.. any opions would help

get your hands on a xa-300 from ebay i got mine there for 60.50 including shipping (NIB)
yeah I have seen these, but if the aux in works on my sony unit, then this wont be needed.. I am going to rig up something today to test it.. just a walkman with a miniphono to rca plugs. fingers x'd
i have a sony head unit and i don't work ... go into the menu of the HU(when if off) and see if you have a aux option, if you do than i guess you can enable it but if you don't then you gonna need to buy one
hmm dont think it has this option in the menu.. o well I will try it anyway. cant see the point of sony putting sockets on the back with audio in wrote above em if you cant use em.. only one way to find out :-)

well the rca's are to plug in a "sony" cd changer or a "sony" xa-300 that will give you the option to add up more sfutt to it and att the same time spend more money on "sony" stuff...Originally Posted by CdRsKuLL

You need something like the XA300 to get the aux in recognized.
ok, thanks for the info, before I put my hand into my pocket again.. this XA300, after doing some reading.. to control it, you press source until cd is selected, then mode to choose the correct input ? is this right ..
also say on my headunit I have radio and a single cd.. would it then rotate between radio / single cd / multicd ?
what happens if you havent got a multi-cd connected.. does it still goto multi-cd first, or straight to aux 1 or whatever mode you left it on last time.. sorry for the questions.. but i'm really in two minds if to carry on using this headunit, or to go headunit less.. both options require more money, but at least the first one would enable me to retain my steering wheel audio controls..
