We may have to add a new forum dedicated to shock set-up.

I'm mounting my HDD in a normal U shaped aluminum bracket, with the bracket glued to a gel wrist-rest pad. The pad is glued to the bottom of the case. This should eliminate shock and keep it from oscilating - all for about $5 for the gel pad. It looks kinda stupid, but what the heck, it works.

Heres my newly installed computer using RC shocks. They were only like $5 for all 4. I looked at the oil filled ones, but at the hobby shop I went to they were like $70!

The harddrive is mounted on two metal dowels I picked up at the home depot. The metal casing around the hard drive was scavanged from a clip in 3.5" drive holder from an old case I had. I drilled holes through it to mount it on the metal dowels then put the springs on the top and bottom.

Those RC shocks are a great idea, I'll definitely bookmark them.

I have been using mine for a couple of years now...all over the place.

Did you recheck the cables, power/ide?

It sounds more like something jarred loose rather than breaking two different devices at once.
