    Slot Load DVD 16x

This is a great DVD drive if you need a slot loading DVD drive. 16x. Not sure about progressive scan though. Clicky

Just for your information, Progressive scan has nothing to do with the dvd drive you buy for your computer. That's a function of self-contained dvd players. This drive is very loud and jerks your DVD or CD in instead of smoothly accepts it. If you can live with these, then the drive could be for you........I'd still, however, recommend a slimline drive. If you're worried abour dvd quality, get a nice graphics card, a good cpu, some ram, and use programs like theatertek, windvd, and even ffdshow for postprocessing.

I wasn't aware Progressive Scan was in standalone DVD players only. As far as the slimline...do you mean a laptop DVD drive? I was looking at getting one, just wondering if it would be better and have a better performance at speeds like 8x rather than 16x. I'll have a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with 512 mb RAM and a GeForce 5200 video card. The PC will do great graphics, I'm worried about the DVD-ROM quality...or is that your point? That the DVD-ROM doesn't matter in quality, it's the software and other hardware?

Yes, to a lesser extent - normal size (5.25" half-height) drives generally tend to be good, but laptop (slim-line) drives can vary in quality.

Not to say that laptop DVD/CD drives are bad - most aren't.

Oh, and progressive scan really depends on the MPEG-2 decoder and video output - I'm not sure about progressive-scan output on PC's.

I noticed that this drive has a model number of DVD-120SZ on the website. I wonder if that's any different than the DVD-120S. I _had_ a DVD-120S and it was terrible. Don't get me wrong it worked, but the way you insert discs and the way it spits them out is just rude. I gave the drive to one of my buddies for Christmas - he's unemployed and needed a DVD drive, so he doesn't care how rude it is.

Do you have the DVD-120SZ drive? How's the feed on it?
