cool, thnxs for verifying that.
no, you were right the first time. tinning is when you put solder on the objects that will be soldered and you apply heat

The way leslie did it is the best. YOu apply heat to the wire and then touch the solder to the wire and if done right the solder looks like it gets sucked into the wire but really it just coats it.
So all you did was open both the faceplate and the HU and wired them together? Did you have to use the cat5 cable or could you have just used single wires? I am guessing you can use both, just the two cat5 cables are easier to work with, right? Do you know how it is working now that you did that?
Still working, I used stress relief.
Yeah the cat 5 cable is good cause you can add connectors and then you run the cable to where you want, then connect it.

Just a few questions. How long was the cat 5 cable? Also did this affect the brightness of the display?
Just because I am still nervous to do this, I will bring it back from the dead....![]()

A friend of mine was wanting me to do that to the display of his home stereo in his theater... he has a front projector and then his components are installed in another room but he'd like to have the stereo display visible from his main seating in the theater. I was thinking the CAT5 cable would be the way to go as well... modular (RJ-45) ends and then he can have a jack to plug into. This is inspirational... I think I'm gonna give him a call this weekend... maybe get this done ASAP... if I do it, I'll take some pictures... GREAT job!
Coach... aka Randy!
Well I did it this weekend. It works. I didn't solder on the board, but rather to the exisiting connections on the HU and face plate. I need to find a place to mount it now in my car. I wish the cat5 was a little more flexible, I feel as though I'll break off the solder connections if i play with it too much while trying to mount it.
I'll have pictures in the future.. no internet at my new house just yet... :0

This should be a sticky. People need to see this idea BEFORE they plan out their carputer. I'm just glad someone brought it back up.
