Here's a link for the pinout and protocol for the Sony UniLink protocol. http://www.eriksen.no/unilink
This protocol controls CD-players in a Sony car stereo installation, as well as source selectors and DSP stuff. I don't think I'm up to it but if someone could build some interface to the pc, it would be fantastic. You could control your player with the head unit, which by the way would show you what is playing, and for what time. The possibilities are quite large but the interface to the UniLink bus seems quite complex. I guess you would need a microcontroller interface between the bus and the pc, if not more. But maybe the microcontroller can be ripped off the AUX-unit from Sony (XA107, don't own that one)? If someone has any idea's about this please let me know in reply's. I myself own a Sony head unit and a 10cd changer, so I'm willing to test some things out. This could be real nice if it works out!
I know this came up before, but not with this background info before

how far did you get with this.. my next car as steering wheel controls, that go into a sony head unitOriginally Posted by Scouse Monkey
No not yet. Need to get out to RS this week and buyt he parts.
Hi scouse,
Just wondering how you have got along with this. I am just about to start my install and have a sony hu. I know I won't want to have the LCD in all the time (lots of scum in the area) and would like a screen & controls in the car for when I don't.
This project seems perfect but like yourself electronics are not my strong point. I have read the links and it does not appear too complex.
Have you sourced the parts? If so where did you find them and how much did they cost?
Thanks,
digi-tal.
haha nice time to revive the thread buddy. Saved me from having to search for it. I really need to pull my finger out and get something done on this. I was held up looking for a Unilink cable (which I now have thanks to some jolly nice American on here who sold me one - he has the other end if you want it for the connector).Originally Posted by digi-tal
