Question Powering an LCD by AC - Possible?

Hey, Cenwesi or others who program, Is it possible to power my 5.6" Mobile Authority LCD by AC current? I'm asking because before I put it in the car and hook it up to DC I'd like to program an interface for it but I'd much rather do it in my house than sitting in my car! Are there any converters or anything to do this? Any ideas on price?

    Thanks!
    Chris

you can do so if you buy and ac to dc power supply (about $65)...you might be better off just completing the interface in the car. if you are only going to use the converter once

All you need to do is find out the current requirements of the LCD. It really shouldnt be too high...it will either tell on the LCD itslef or in a manual. After you do that go down to Radio Shack and you can get a 12v 'wall wart' (the little wall box type plug) that has the current handling capability you need. That should work and be a lot cheaper than $65. That $65 will get you a very nice bench power supply but thats really not what you need just to power the LCD.

    Use your computer power supply.

    Chris Snyder:
wow, I didn't think of using the computer's power supply. That would work? Just cut off one of the plugs from the power supply and wire it up to the lcd and that'll work okay?

    Thanks!

Yeah just do what Chris Snyder said. Also keep in mind, if you are going to have have ALOT of component in your PC, lets say DVD, or what ever, make sure u use a 20gugage wire or get one of those stereo kit thing from radio shack to connect the power source from the battery to your box or AC adapter. I found this out with my setup because of all the stuff i have in it.
