interfacing old ipod with carputer

I have a whole bunch of music on my 5GB original ipod (mac only), but when my mac bit the dust (just being used as a second comp for music since when i got the ipod they didnt suppot PCs), i decided to build a carputer. I want to get those old files off the ipod, is this possible? (without a mac)?

Anyone know any software to interface my old ipod through firewire to my carputer to just do a file dump?

Look for Ephod, I have heard that it offers what you are looking for even thought I never used it myself as I got a Window Version.
