    RADIO SHARK

    Isnt this just for macs?

So this is how they play the radio on the carpc, totallying getting rid of the car radio. Will this get a good pic up like a car radio would. nice and clear and all the local radio stations?

What if you want to hook an amp and some subs, and how do you play the radio and the carpc threw the car speakers.

    Thanks.

it is supported by this software:

i think this is awesome. if it interfaces by serial it can't be hard to write some software to control it.
That's what I use. Wrote my own driver (C++ dll). Hacked it up real fast just to see it work:

I'll send you the code if you want. Got a VB sample that works with it (the C++ dll) also.

You are running that "Radio-man" on XP, right?
How hard is it to set that up?
I mean with the right driver.

If it has an rs232 interface you don't need a driver you just need to know the protocol, which can be sniffed rather easily.

This would be a lot cooler if it had the same USB>rs232 chip in it that the XMPCR does.

aforget: What has your experience with this unit been like (most importantly in a car using the vehicle's antenna)? We'd love to support another radio for MediaEngine, but we'd rather not spend the time just to have another mediocre tuner like the D-Link.

You can get a USB to RS232 adapter cheap like this, or some cellphone data cables have a serial adapter molded into the USB connector side making it a little smaller if you want to chop the other end off and solder it directly.

My Radioman just came today. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it. @aforgot: can you send me your code?

UPDATE: I got the Radioman working with radiator. But it looks like Radiator only supports FM. Is there an AM/FM solution available out there that works with one of the carpc front ends?
