Yup, I ripped apart and old keyboard and wired buttons to the old keyboard controller. I have a section about it on my page under hardware.

Ok, i need a few custom buttons built into my LCD case. (stop, play, next, prev) Some people had earlier suggested that i get a numeric keypad and use the controller from that with momentary push buttons. This seems like a good idea to me. Anyone tried this?

Found a source for decent buttons? I was thinking of doing something along those lines too, but was hoping to find neat little soft-rubber shaped buttons like remotes have (I have considered taking apart a remote and just wiring the button-board from that into the keyboard controller). I was thinking maybe some translucent rubber ones, and then adding a separate backlight or using the LEDs from the caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock indicators. Yeah, anyway, if you know where to get something like that, lemme know.
check out the poweramp mite from http://www.actlab.com, it's a gamepad that plugs into the keyboard port and is fully programable.
i took one apart and an using pushbuttons to control my setup. highly recomended

I just got the latest Mouser Electronics catalog. www.mouser.com pg320
It has pages of nice, small switches, including some illuminated ones. Most are about .5 inch square or round, and about 1 inch tall. (and some are about half that size.

Yea, Mouser's great. I got a whole bunch of speaker building stuff from them, and they had it to my house in four days. They have a wide selection of buttons, you can get whatever you want.
The stupid looking red ones I have in my setup now are temporary... I will be getting better ones from mouser shortly.
