IR-MAN problem. Suggestions please.
I have had my setup (AMD K6-400, 96 mb ram, 4 x 20 charactewr LCD) running for about 4 weekes now in the car and now am turning to you guys for some help( I have searched the board, and have been reading since last August - so I know my way round the topic pretty well (I think) and cant find an answer).
Anyway problem number 1: I have been using an IRMAN with the winamp plug-in to control the player - it works like a dream in the house, on the end of a serial extension (approx 3M), and also with the sensor extended on the end of some cat5 cable (about 3M) - however in the car (Fiat Punto)it works intermitantly - mainly if the reciver/sensor is stowed in the open glove compartment - but if the sensor is moved out into the open or placed where I would ideally like to locate it, it refuses to work - ie will not start, stop, change track etc etc. I have a keypad additionally, which works all of the time.
ANyone experience this thing before or have any suggestions - any ideas will be gratefully recieved.
Cheers

The problem most propably is that the IR sensor gets too much interferance from the ambient light. That's why it works only from the glove compartement. The only way you can fix this, is to place it somewhere that is easy to point the remote to but difficult for the light coming from the windows to "find" it. OR you could put it behind some kind of tinted glass that filters out all the unwanted light wave lengths exept the IR remote's (don't ask me what kind of filter-I don't know, but I guess a piece from an old VCR's or TV's (or other remote controled appliance)face plate will do the job.

P.S. Ckeck for loose, intermitent connections just to make sure!

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking along these lines myself, but really wanted some other opinions - I think I may hack apart an old VCR or something to get the filter plate from the frnt, and then give that a go.
