    Post quickest locking GPS?

Any opinions on what the quickest locking GPSes are?

I've heard positive comments about the Garmin 35 series. Any others? I've had bad experiences with the cheapo Delorme tripmates.

Can anyone comment on the copilot GPS?

I have the Copilot GPS. The initial fix takes about 15 minutes. After that however, it takes a VERY short time to get a fix. Usually under 10 seconds. If the GPS is tracking when you drive it never loses the fix. If you drive 500 miles away and the GPS isnt tracking, it'll take a while to get a fix again. Overall the tracking is really good though.

I just got the Co-pilot and I have the delorme already. One of the bigest things to lock speed is making sure that the time on your pc is correct and in the correct timezone. I would say that the co-pilot is the best that I have seen.

Garmin IIIplus is pretty fast. More expensive though...it's a full featured receiver!

Well my Garmin GPS35PC should be here soon. I'll let you guys know how it is. It's supposed to real good.

Perfect for the automotive environment. Takes 6V-40VDC unregulated. So I can just connect it to the electrical system. Starts locking as soon as it gets power (I'll make that whenever I turn the car on), without any DTR or init necessary from the computer. Fast locking. Lithium-ion rechargeable battery for all its time/date/ephemeris/almanac info, with a 6 month charge.

hehe.. anyway, like I said I'll post again once it arrives and I know how well it actually works =P

It takes 15 min. to get somewhere. What would be the point of the reciever if it takes 15 min to lock and it takes you 15 min. to get there? Also where can u get the GPS35PC?

I used to have a clarion autopc. It had my location the second the car was turned on. The only thing that took any time at all was to calculate the route. I don't know what a PC would take any longer to "lock"?

clarion autopc is a headunit.. like any head unit, it has constant 12v+ something tells me it keeps the GPS receiver on with the constant.. all the time.

Oh, sorry, forgot to post the update.

The Garmin GPS35PC is great. It locks in seconds to tons of satellites. Where my tripmate took an hour to grab 5 from the top of a mountain with no obstructions, the Garmin GPS35PC gets all 12 in less than 30 seconds.

If it's been locked within the last 30 minutes and needs to relock due to poweroff, or tunnel, or whatever, it relocks within seconds.

It's so good, it locks from inside the metal trunk of my car (albeit, it doesn't aquire as many satellites). It even locks from inside my bedroom, without a view of any of the windows! In my bedroom though it was only able to get a 2d lock.

Add the benefit that if you wire it to the accessory line, it'll power on as soon as your car does. That means by the time your PC is going ,it'll have long been locked.
