    Quietest fans?

I'm looking for PC fans between 20-80mm but they need to be quiet.

I dont want a harrier jet trying to take off inside my dash.

    You want a Panaflo 12L/L1A...

    seriously, these are whisper-quiet.

although, important note: my link above is to the ones that have a 2-pin connector, NOT a standard 4-pin molex connector.

the larger the fan is, the slower it has to spin to move the same amount of air. Hence you shouldnt be looking at anything below 60mm if you want a really quiet fan. Get one of those huge bastards with some super new bearing technology

Never used panaflo but 21db seems to be damn good.

If you want ultra quiet, and willing to spend a little more, then Papst is your fan. The Papst 8412NGL fan is marketed as the most quiet fan in the world. Noise level 12db!

Panaflo L1A series are definetly great fans. I use the 80mm panaflo L1A series fans in every computer i build. They're only 21db. A relative newcomer to the scene is SilenX. I haven't used any of their fans personaly, but if their specs are correct, they're the new king of quiet. They're fans are quieter than just about everyone else's and they produce more airflow. Compare SilenX's 14db 80mm fan to the Panaflo 80mm L1A.

    SilenX
    28cfm
    14db

    Panaflo L1A
    24cfm
    21db

    Papst 8412NGMV
    20.6cfm
    13db

Now let me tell you, the panaflo 80mm L1A is quiet. The Papst and SilenX fans are listed at a third less db. They should be very silent. The SilenX produces the most cfm of the three with only 1db more than the papst. Now I'm not dissing papst fans, they're great fans, but sometimes its hard to get a specific model papst. I don't know how easy or hard the 8412NGMV is to find, i just used it in the example because it was the 80mm papst with the best noise to airflow ratio. The drawback to all 3 fans i listed is that they're not cheap. If you look hard enough you can get the panaflo 80mm for $3-$4. On average you seem them going for around $9. I'm not sure about the Papst fans, but i believe they go for around $8-$10, maybe more. The silenX fan is $13.95. Not cheap, but if it lives up to it's specs, it maybe worth the money. You can find specs on many other fans on the following site:
    Gizzo's fan page

You can check out SilenX's here:
    SilenX

    Hope this info helps.
