Surely you need 5v too?
i have a slot load dvd rom hooked up to my car pc through a usb to ide converter. i extended the 12v and ground wires so they will reach also. i tested the rom in my house and it works fine, when i take it to my car the computer recognizes its there but it doesnt work. I have 12v and ground hooked up to the back of the drive. i was told i dont need all 4 wires hooked up 12v, g, g, 5v. does anyone know why it isnt working? thanks
Surely you need 5v too?
....Yes, I know it has a stupid name, those crazy Japanese!
thats what i was wondering. like i said before, i was told i only needed 12v and ground.
What DVD player? If it's one of those slimline ones, it only needs 5v.
Do you have the SR-8185 or 8186 model by chance? If so, it needs 5v not 12v. Also I have some advice on how to get it to work if that's the one you have, pm me.
oh, I dunno then.. it probably is 12v..
If it's full size, it probably needs both.

ok, i just took apart the computer and got the 12v line to the dvd rom and it works now. kinda, ill post my problem in a new topic so ppl will see it
i know 99% of drives use 5v for thare controler chip. so you most likely need 5v
