    Post PartsExpress.com - 5" LCD - please help.

    Hi,
I am desperatly in need of a display for my system. I am thinking about getting one from PartsExpress.com, the 4" or the 5". I have a pretty small ride, a honda civic hatchback, so I fear the 5" may be too big. I would like to know if the base is detachable... I could hide the base somewhere else and maybe built a custom screen case and find a way to mount it.
I think several people on this forum have acquired one of these LCDs. Could you please let me know how you mounted it? Do you have pics? Or please advise me on what to?
    Thanks.

if you do get that screen, please be aware that it is NTSC and NOT VGA. you have to buy a tv-out card for it to work.

as far as size goes, the 5" should work just fine. and im sure that the base is detachable as long as you know how to pry off the case (although it may not come to that)

I ordered the 5" a few days ago, i can tell you more about it when i get it. But it will probably take some time, i'm in Norway you see.

As for the size, i don't think that 5" would be to big anyways, except for mounting in really small places. But remember that 4" isn't all that big to look on. (Neither is 5"

I own the 5" screen. I love it. I hook it up to my playstation, VCR and computer. It works great. I can set it on the dash board or prop it up for the people in the back seat. I think I am going to attach suction cups to the bottom to mount it on the windshield. Since it can adjust up/down, it would be perfect. The suction cups could also attach to the sunroof glass....

    Question

Has anyone used the PartsExpress LCD for GPS? Would like to know how readable it is.

mustang: i think it depends on what sofware u use. For example, does it allow u to change the fonts on the text that shows up on the screen. And also what type of Zoom Capability comes with it. I have a 6.8" screen i don't think i will have problem with GPS. Right now i am still looking for the best GPS out there. The one that finds the damn satelite quickly.

I go back and fourth between Microsoft Streets 2001 and Street Atlas. Neither find the satellite fast enough.

Overall, I like the look and feel Streets better, but I typically ust Street Atlas since I like the LAME attempt at speech directions.

Noting I have found on the PC compares to the quality of Neverlost/Magellan.
