    Mounting Direction of Mobo

From the posts and pictures I've seen, just about everyone has their mobo mounted differently. I'd like to know whether a vertical mount will be perfectly safe (aka, like the way a Mobo is installd on a Tower).

But more importantly, I'm refering to the weight of the CPU Cooling unit. Going over bumpy roads at 60, or even at 30 puts, imo, high stress on the pcb and socket. Anyone have any problems yet like this with this type of mount???

If not, how big is the cooling unit, and if yes, what kinda damage did u receive. thx.

If you use a regular ITX m/b with a large pentium/athalon heatsink then I think the mass of the heatsink could crack the processor or damage the m/b in extreme circumstances. And could no matter the orientation. The lightweight heatsinks on EPIA mini-ITX m/b should not have a problem.

ITX, hmm, how bout a full fledged ATX mobo

But I like what you said about the Lightweight heatsink! Thats defiitely the trick to a sucesfull setup. Gonna go search for 'em now. Thats definiely the trick. If you happen to know a link for a good one, something that'll cool like a 2600+ AMD,post it up. Thx.

Yup, you'd have even more problems with ATX format. The key is to get a low profile heatsink with a fast fan.

I got the speeze low profile copper heatsink from Newegg. On the bench my Athlon-M 2600+ is running at 2ghz and 31C (at least according to the m/b).

Seems to be cooling the CPU pretty effectively.

That's a nice find. Gonna have remember that for my install. My only concern is it doesn't seem to be rated for a processor with your speed (or one that I want to go with).

I have the VIA MII 10000 and have noticed that the heatsink will pop off if a slight force is applied, but since it has springs holding it on it should pop back on. The only way I would not mount it is inverted since over time I can see the heatsink pop'ing off with the bumps in the road every now and then.

Wouldn't it have to be a pretty good jolt in order to pop off an ATX heatsink/fan. The ones that I have put on lately have all required a good bit of force in order to lock them down. I think as long as the "hold down bracket" is vertical it will help absorb more impact than horizontal.
