New sound cards w/ onboard decoding

Just FYI the Diamond MX400 PCI soundcard will have an onboard MP3 encoder/decoder along with S/PDIF digital output and it will be < $100.

The lowliest computer with a PCI ( even a newish 486 mobo w/ PCI slots ) becomes a killer mp3 box.

I think you may have misunderstood that review. That diamond sound card does not have built in MP3 decoding capabilities. The Hardware decoding capabilities can be added on with an MP3 decoding daughter board (and entirely separate card). And while Diamond may be selling the card for under $100 who knows how much the daughter card will be and how long it will take them to release it....
