I'm looking for a circuit, that will push the power button on my laptop for me.
Basically, I'm thinking this... when I turn the key 12v is applied to the cicuit which connects the two contacts of the power button for about 1 second then releases all while still recieveing current.
Did ya follow me? I do appologize for not realy having a clue what I'm talking about.
Didn't someone do something simmilar with the Lilliput screens? Maybe I could use a simmilar circuit?
I "hardwired" my Lilliput screen by soldering a small wire from one side of the on/off switch to the other side... It now powers on automatically as soon as it senses a 12V signal...

I'm a little concerned about using an ITPS, actually now that I think about it the thing I've been describing might not work out as I want it to either.
You see, what I'm now thinking is this: I'm in the car, the pc is on, I turn the power off... but oops, I didn't mean/need to do that, so I start the car back up... now what happens to the computer in that time?
With the setup I was originally planning on, the laptop wouldn't have enough time to shutdown automatically so when I start back up the circuit/relay would send the pulse to the switch, shutting down the pc.
What about the ITPS? How would it react to this situation? Also, how much power does the ITPS consume when the car is off?

I used the first diagram at http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp to make the following. It was basically my introduction to electronics....Very simple and uses too many damn relays...
Few problems with it thought - Start up car and it'll turn the laptop on then turn the car off quickly before the laptop is finished booting and it won't shutdown. (no worries though - just recharge the laptop batteries :P)
My setup uses this right now with a momentary button for when i need manual control...Hopefully, I'll get some free time and get to make a better one soon. :P
