Thread: How fast does YOUR system boot?

98Lite is a program that will let you custom-install windows such that it will leave out all the crap that you don't need, but retain the capabilities of Win98. Namely, you can remove Internet Explorer entirely, get rid of active desktop, replace the shell with the original Win95 shell, and several other things.. it makes Win989 run faster, although I'm not sure about boot time..

From Callahan's specs, it looks pretty fast to boot. Where can you pick it up?

I thought NT would be a good choice because of its stablility. However it takes forever to boot. (Never crashed though!) I think I'll switch to 98lite soon.

Can anyone get on that Win 98 Lite site (www.98lite.net)? It didn't resolve the last couple days and now it seems as if its a totally different company.

That's with IE 4.0 and a bunch of stuff I could get rid of with Win98 Lite.

Anyone got any ideas on how to reduce the
20 or so seconds before the OS is loaded?

Most motherboards do a complete hardware check when powered up (RAM, PNP, IDE, etc.). A lot of newer boards skip this process, which I would imagine saves a great deal of time.
