    extending IDE cables

i want to mount my carpc under my passenger seat and have my slot load dvd mounted in my dash.

i know they make 3 foot cables.

i remember seeing somewhere on the internet where someone used a cat5 cable to extend their ide cables its 50/50 if it works because of the length and i just wanted to know if anyone here has done something like that.

    thanks.
