    wire gauge question

i'm trying to solder wires to the board of my laptop docking station so that i can extend the power button. i figured out which points to short and everything. i tried this once already and used 18AWG hookup wire. it worked, but i think the wire may have been too thick and stiff. when i put it back together, the solder cracked and broke the entire switch off the board. that was pretty much the end of that.

so i got another docking station and my question is what type of wire should i use? is 22AWG wire thin and flexible enough?

should be able to. we sold stranded 18ga wire at a hardwore store i worked at. or any car audio store should have it too. i'm not sure about the size you need.it depends how many amps are going through the wire. if its just a pulse like for a computer psu 22ga should be ok. otherwise you should check it out.
