Simple question: What is the bitrate at which the songs are recorded at. Too low of a bitrate and you will hear artifacts that shouldn't be in the song due to the compression.

Howdo people,
Coolest forum on the net concerning incar gizmos, definitely!!!![]()
OK, firstly and briefly my setup
Pioneer DEH-P9400MP Headunit
Pioneer CD Changer
Kenwood Amp running two Rockford Fosgate Subs
Standard Audi Speakers (nokia) BOO!
CD-RB20 IPBUS connector
12v / 240v inverter
DVD player
7” Joytech Screen
I have recently installed the DVD player (a cheapo home one), using the inverter for power (obviously lol), connecting it to the headunit via the CD-RB20 (RCAs) and S-video cable to the screen. A Simple install.
It basically works ok as a DVD player, films playback fine.
My problem is when I try to play MP3s through the DVD player I get serious crackling coming though the speakers as well as the music, it appears to be connected to the more bassy sounds.
Its not the dvd player as I have tried another similar player.
Btw, my headunit plays MP3s I know, but I have several DVDs with mp3s on and would like to be able to use them incar.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance.

hi Derek,
tried a few different mp3s on dvd and cd, most are 192kbps, i think that should be fine??
cheers
btw, the eventual plan is to use a xbox instead of dvd player.
I'd burn a quick CD with some of the songs in question. Find out how they sound through your deck. 192Kbps should be good enough (that's how I like most of my music).
I wanna point my finger at the DVD player. Perhaps it just isn't take great at decoding the songs.
XBox... even modded, can it play MP3s. (I'm looking into modding mine soon).

a modded xbox incar would be cool, divx movies, mp3s, games all in one.
get yours modded, well worth it.
it could well be these cheap players yes, however in theory they should work fine. hmmmm
it is defenately worth it...no questions asked. running debian linux on it is great and you can easily mod a USB keyboard to it.Originally Posted by barney0001

Update - this crackle is definitely connected to bass, soft music sounds ok until the bass kicks in.
It happens on MP3s, VCDs and through my xbox (thanks Kermee), but no where near as bad on the xbox??![]()
This is probably the case on DVDs through the DVD player maybe I've just not heard them yet.
So, does anyone know why bassy sounds would cause this crackling through my headunit??
Thanks again people.![]()
btw, only reason i'm bit gutted is i made a RCA to IPBUS cable from an old autochanger cable and this crackling was there. So i purchased the CD-RB20 thinking i needed it. nope, didnt! crackling still there. only benifit i got was the use of my autochanger back (not bothered, hardly use it) doh!
Quick question! You mentioned that the crackling only happens when playing "bassey" sounds via MP3 but DVD playback is fine. What happens when you play DVD's that output alot of bass such as an action movie that contains alot of explosions? Does it still exhibit the crackling? Or what about if you have an "Original" audio CD with alot of bass. Does it also exhibit the crackling. If it doesn't exhibit the crackling on the DVD or Original Audio CD, it could be a problem with the player reading recordable media. Just something to try and list the results to better help you troubleshoot...
Thanks for your input Learic, yeah its odd. when i first installed it all. i played an action film, watched it for 20 mins. it seemed fine. Well chuffed. Next day though popped in a mp3 DVD. very serious crackles. oops!fun began!
rounding up. im trying not to bore ya here![]()
DVD films in player - more or less fine, crackles not apparent.
MP3 and VCD in player - very bad crackles indeed
xbox (games, divx and mp3) - much better, crackle is reduced to a pop/crack here and there.
hope this clarifies.
i jsut cant decide where to look now.. headunit, cabling, inverter etc etc.
