You can still get at the hazard button, seat warmer settings, etc. The A/C vents are clear, but the cup holder is blocked when the LCD is out.Originally Posted by Wasabi

I'm planning on using the same location for my LCD ... I've been toying with the idea of making my own bracket, but the digitalww model might be more convenient and functional in the long run.Originally Posted by archimense
With the in-dash kit, are the dash controls (Hazards, ASR, A/C vents, etc) and cupholder located above that DIN slot obscured?

On the 03 GTI they have fixed this problem with the crappy cup holders that were obscuring the HU or the cubby by moving them in the center console.
Thanks for the pics !
Was the install straightforward ? how did you route your cables ?!?

Get a Bentley manual so you can see how all of the interior pieces fit together. Some of them have really hidden clips and such.Originally Posted by migrane
I routed all of the cables under the trim of the door sills.
I think any VR6 should have Opus 150W. You can use a regular HDD (more space, and cheaper), and you won't have to wory about shutt down controllers and stuff like that. About keeping you stock unit, I woudn't recommend it: the sound isn't that great if you have to use an FM modulator or something like that. The best sound you can get, is from an external sound card, and through the amp.
I have an OPUS 150W and it is great; survives crank and everything.
I wouldn't recommend a FM modulator either, but there are other ways to add an auxilliary input besides replacing your head unit.

I for one think that the monsoon sound system is an excellent system. It all depends on what music you listen to and how. I am not much of an audio buff and dont care much about how many watts my system has and all that. All I care about is that the sound reproduction is clear and warm at a moderate volume. The factory monsoon system in my 03 GTI deliveres that no problem.

I agree about the cdchanger bracket being a cramped place to put the pc. But, i'm going to do it anyway - and i'm currently looking for a broken oem cdchanger unit so i can gut it out and use that as the case. Unfortunately, no one seems to be selling a broken one ( probably because they don't see the market for it ) and it would be a shame to waste 200$ on a new/use working one that i'm just gonna gut out. :|
