Well you could connect more than 3 ATA133 because they are accessed not simultaneously.
The motherboard that I am thinking of using for my install only has two USB ports on it. My intent is to have two USB hubs installed. One for 1.1 devices and another for 2.0 devices. I'm going to have two harddrives in the car. One drive is gonna be on the IDE channel and the other is gonna be in a removeable rack in the front.
Can I run the Panasonic Slim DVD and a 7200 WD harddrive through the USB2.0 hub?
USB2.0 is supposed to run up to 480MB/s (or 400MB/s. Can't remember which is FireWire and which is USB). ATA133 is supposed to be able to do up to 133MB/s. So, in theory, I can run 3 ATA133 devices through a USB2.0 connection.

Carputer currently 'ghettoed' into car!!!
EPIA MII-12000
Ampie Case with rigged extra USB
Hitachi 60GB
Holux GPS mouse with iGuidance 2.0
Lilliput 7" touchscreen
Netgear WG121 USB WiFi
Carnetix P1260
USB2 is 480Mbits/sec, I believe. ATA133 is 133MBytes/sec (1064Mbits). ATA133 is faster than USB2. Even 5400rpm drives are much slower when connected to USB2.
So I would be better off trying to incorporate the removeable rack into the trunk where it would be able to run off the IDE?
