    Question Dumb terminal

Im looking for any ideas (good, bad, or just plain stupid) of how to use my Compaq LTE/286 laptop as an interface to my MP3Car box. The Laptop is a 286 12MHz with one parrallel port one serial port one 1.44 meg floppy drive NO hard drive and a very nice grayscale type Backlit LCD. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

P.S. This is NOT a post about 'How can i use the display from my old laptop on my MP3box' I want to use the whole machine or as many parts as neccsasary.

    Thumbs up

There are a couple plug-ins on the winamp site under the general section that may work. I know there is a telnet server plugin for controlling winamp with a telnet client, and also a few other ones that may work!

You might try using a terminal program. something like procomm plus, etc. There are several of these out there for dos. Other than that you might be able to write your own interface throught the serial port.

Being a 286 your options are limited, but I think if you run some sort of terminal emulator, that should work. Now some of this does depend on what os your mp3 box is running. LInux will be easy. Dos/WIN9x is a different story.

    Unhappy

One of the main constraints of the box is the fact that it has no ethernet card and i have not been able to find one for it. and even if i did i would have to give up my 1 meg memory expansion board to use it(leaving me with only 640k).

    thanks for the replies tho

    Cool

procomm plus is a terminal program.
I'd recommend commo, it's a much tighter and better written terminal program.

What mp3 player are you using? I haven't come accross a decent serial terminal control plug in for winamp, and unfortunately mpxplay doesn't work with a redirected command prompt.
