    Formating with bad sectors?

I've got a 2.5" HDD from a laptop. I've hooked it up to my desktop (via an IDE adapter.) WinXP install gave me some memory errors (I know all my memory is fine.) So I tried formating to start over witha fresh install.

I get to 6% formated and get an error saying it can't continue. I ran scan disk. I got 6 bad sectors. That's no biggie. One of them is right around 6% though. I think the formating hits the bad sector and stops. What can I do?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks.

Replace the drive. It's dying. NTFS is supposed to be able to mark bad sectors and not use them, or replace them with a limited number of spare sectors, but I wouldn't trust it. You're just going to get more and more bad sectors and loose data.

That's what I figured. I was hoping you could tell me of some chant and dance I can do to revive it. Looks like a cremation tonight instead.
