need connector for CD drive cable

All my IDE ribbon cables have female connectors, where can I get a male connector for the ribbon cable? I want to have a short piece of ribbon cable that goes from the IDE port on the motherboard to a male connector outside the case, then I could plug another ribbon cable from that to the CD drive. The connector on the motherboard and the connector on the CD drive will be inaccessible and I want to be able to remove the carputer from the car with a minimal amount of trouble. If there was some way I could just cut the CD ribbon cable and put a male and female connector in it would really help.

http://sales.goldmine-elec.com/prodinfo.asp?prodid=9177 How about that? I've seen some others on that site as well, equally as cheap, but this is what a quick search turned up.

I thought about something like that, I'd have to solder all the wires, if Isolder i'm just going to pull an ide header off a motherboard and use that. I also though about using a header like the one that you linked to and using it between 2 female connectors but that would screw up the wire number order. Thanks anyway.

if you used it as a female to male converter the wire order would get messed up.instead of the wires being 1,2,3,4,5... and so on the order would be changed to 2,1,4,3,6,5,8,7... and so on

How about spending the $30 for an external IDE enclosure. Then whatever IDE device you want to use, is suddenly a USB or firewire. Without soldering, you're gonna have a hard time finding something that isn't going to swap the wires. By the time you pay for that, and with the limitations of length for IDE (without data loss/slowing), I think you'll be much better off with an external enclosure. If you want to use many different devices, just hack the enclosure a bit to make it easier to swap devices.
