Check your jumper on the hard drive.

yea. i dont have any jumpers on the HD, hence it is on disk0 mode = master mode which was how i got it.

its on my secondary master IDE, dvdrom is on primary master IDE.

and yes i have power since the adapter has a 4 pin HD power supply jack u can plug into

edit: and you can feel the HD doin something.

    Try the primary cable then.

I don't think I have ever seen a hard drive without jumpers.

try unplugging the DVD and see if the system sees the drive. If so, then your lappy HD is set to cable select. Just the lappy HD on the IDE bus should show it if not, then the HD in "in the eimer"..

yea. well, to start. . the HD works.
when i just plug in the HD, still nothing. put in the jumpers, still nothing. hehe
put it as master setting on master cable, nothing
put is as slave setting on slave cable + desktop hd as master on master cable = desktop HD name being fu**ed in bios, and then won't detect.

also, i tried this on my desktop,, same results.

Well sorry chicochu sounds like your lappy hd is fubar!! I don't know what that means but it sounds bad enough... did it detect as a solo drive on a single ide ribbon?
